General
The National League of Cities (NLC) launched this website as part of a new project to help local elected officials reduce childhood obesity. Through this project, NLC is leading efforts to support local officials who sign up to participate in Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties (LMCTC), a key component of First Lady Michelle Obama’s comprehensive Let’s Move! initiative. With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NLC’s Institute for Youth, Education, and Families will provide local elected officials with tools and technical assistance as they seek to improve health outcomes for children and youth.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (the “Foundation’) has funded this project on which includes the creation of this website and certain related products (i.e., success stories), and services and (collectively, the “Services”) to connect and support those working to change policies and environments to help children be more active and eat healthy foods, both of which are critical to reversing the epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States. A key purpose of the project is to provide a mechanism for local elected officials, their staff and their designees to identify each other and to share information among themselves (see “Information sharing” below).
