Featured Resource: KaBOOM!
KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most. KaBOOM! collaborates with Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties (LMCTC) to provide support on LMCTC Goal V: Active Kids at Play. For this goal, local elected officials commit to mapping local playspaces, completing a needs assessment, developing an action plan, and launching a minimum of three proven policies, programs or initiatives to increase access to play.
Explore the links below to learn how KaBOOM! can help you increase physical activity in your community and achieve LMCTC Goal V.
Mapping Play:
- The KaBOOM! Map of Play is a way for you to find playspaces across the country. It also gathers data on where playspaces are, the condition of existing playspaces, and helps KaBOOM! identify where playspaces are most needed nationwide and helps you, as a local elected official or community member, identify areas in your community lacking playspaces.
- Local elected and officials, their staff and community members can use the Map of Play, now optimized for mobile devices, to report the location of publically accessible parks or recreational facilities in their community as well as add photos and ratings to existing Map of Play records.
Online Trainings:
- KaBOOM! hosts a variety of online training modules to support you in increasing access to play. Trainings include essentials on how to build new playspaces, engage in and promote partnerships, and interviews with leading experts and innovators. Click here to view available trainings.
Playful City USA Program:
- Playful City USA is a national recognition program honoring cities and towns that make play a priority and use innovative programs to get children active, playing, and healthy. If you are already a Playful City, you meet the criteria for LMCTC Goal V: Active Kids at Play. Click here to apply to become a Playful City USA.
