Webinar Recording: Active Cities Equal Healthy Economies: Success Stories from South Bend and St. Petersburg
The National League of Cities, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention held a webinar on Tuesday, January 26 for jurisdictions participating in the Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties and Mayors’ Challenge for Safer People, Safer Streets initiatives.
First Lady Michelle Obama has called on local elected officials to take action to improve children’s health as part of the larger Let’s Move! initiative, and Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has called on them to improve the safety of our roads for pedestrians and bicyclists. This past fall, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy also issued a Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities, highlighting the need to create more walkable communities through transportation and related improvements as a way to help people lead more active – and healthy – lives.
This webinar featured South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg and St. Petersburg, Florida Mayor Rick Kriseman and their key staff talking about what action they are taking to integrate efforts to achieve both transportation and health goals. Both cities are participating in the Mayors’ Challenge and Let’s Move!.
