Celebrate the 4th Anniversary of Let's Move!
February 9, 2014 marks the 4th anniversary of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, which was launched in 2010 with the goal of ensuring that all kids can grow up healthy and have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Let’s Move! is built on the premise that everyone has a role to play in reducing childhood obesity – from businesses and communities to child care providers, faith leaders, chefs, schools, mayors, parents, and individuals. We encourage you to celebrate this 4th anniversary by hosting an event, meeting, or special activity in your city, town or county during the week of February 9th to showcase the accomplishments you’ve made or plan to make later this year.
As local elected officials and city leaders, your unique role as a convener in your community is critical to bringing various partners, constituents, and other stakeholders to the table to address the health of children in your community. We’ve created a starter list of ideas for you to consider, but feel free to be creative! You’ll notice these activities complement the five goals of Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties.
We want to hear how you are celebrating! Please share your event plans with us by sending event details to Elena Hoffnagle at Hoffnagle@nlc.org. We’ll use the information provided to post event information from around the country on the Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties website and to share with the Let’s Move! family through newsletters and blogs. We have also created a press release template you can personalize and share with local newspapers, bloggers and other media outlets to help you promote your event to your constituents and partners. You can download a copy of the press release by clicking here.
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to share and celebrate the accomplishments and activities you are working on to improve the health of your community’s children.
